Booklist and Reviews

Over the last twenty years I have spent a lot of time reading and learning.  In hopes to share some of the books and authors I am reading with you, I have created this list including short reviews.  Reading has influenced my path and I hope this list will guide you on yours.

Emotional Wellness by Osho

This is a must read book if you are serious about improving your life.  This book is about changing the old thoughts that have been ruling your life. Learning how to transform fear, anger, and jealousy into creative energy is a big step in creating a life of being.  I give this book a strong four stars.  It is a great book. Please give a shot.

The Wisdom of the Self by Paul Ferrini

This book is essential reading for students of A Course in Miracles.  I liked the book. It is a great read, full of different levels of validation of the information that you choose to believe and it challenges the thoughts you are still contemplating into their highest thought.  This book leaves you moving forward, believing in yourself and inspires you to keep going.  I give this book 4-stars.  This is not part of the master’s series I was reading from Paul Ferrini, more to come on those later

Being with Dying By Joan Halifax

The title of this book is misleading.  I found it is about learning how to live more than just about being in the presence of the dying.  I believe this book is a must read for anyone who is walking the path to their truth.  I sincerely hope that you look into this book and read it.  It is a great book about compassion starting with you.  I give it 4 stars.

The Laws of Love By Paul Ferrini

This is a great book. Paul Ferrini does not pull punches in his writing about life or better yet, enlightment.  You need to have the right information to ponder what you believe and though only you can decide which information is right for you, I felt he provides worthwhile and valuable insights with this book. I want books to leave me thinking about life’s deeper questions and he does in this book, like all the books I have read by him. I give this book four stars. I hope you read it.

Buddha A Story of Enlightenment By Deepak Chopra

I was taken by this book.  The story is about a life of meditation and a one-man path.  I like the way Deepak weaved a story around the life of Buddha.   It was great. I will not tell you the story but I will leave you with this: read the Epilogue of this book, it changed my life.  I give this book four stars and one thumbs up.

Excuses Begone! By Wayne Dyer

This book is a menagerie of techniques and philosophies from different people and masters and wrapped in the writing of Wayne Dyer’s personal stories.  That being said, the art of learning is finding the way you learn best and finding the right words to plant a seed inside you.  That is what this book does.  I have read the books that Wayne uses to build this book and he does a good job bringing them together in a new way to help readers plant their own seeds.  He has taken the most important seeds of thought from three or four books and spread them out and glued them together with his stories and Wayne wisdoms.  I liked the book. There is no new message here but the old wisdoms wrapped in this new package might be the present you and your life will be able to receive.  I give it 4 Stars.

Frequency the Power of Personal Vibration by Penney Peirce

I liked this book; it was full of good information and things to try in working with your personal vibration.  It put words and definitions to those feeling, tingles, gut feelings, which we all have.  I found that it was hard to put the book down.  I give it four stars.

Love Without Conditions by Paul Ferrini

This book is not a fast read, not that it’s a long book at only 156 pages, and the chapters are only two or three pages each. Even the font is easy on the eyes.  What makes this book a slow read is the quality of information and the thought provoking words and ideas that Ferrini offers about love without conditions.  The experience of this book is more than reading, it is taking in the words and paragraphs and looking up and thinking about what you read, then questioning what you read and going back and rereading the same sentence or paragraph again to see if you understood it and how it plays into your life and thoughts.  This book is a life changer if you let it. For some people it will be a great read, others might find it hard and dense. Before buying, sit down with it and see if it vibrates with you.   For me I give it four stars and am following it up with his multi-book course in Spiritual Mastery, which I will review as a whole.

The Majestic Domain of the Universal Heart By Hua-Ching Ni & Dr Maoshing Ni

I like this book, it is an interpretation of the Tao and the lessons it offers.  I do not think this book is for everyone, so pick it up and sit with it and read a page or two.  If you feel it resonates with you, you will likely find it informative and enlightening. I rate this book four stars.

Mindful Therapy by Thomas Bien, PH.D.

This book was written for Therapists and Helping Professionals, but I think he has actually written it for you and me.  In mind it was a great book.  I like it because Bien applies Buddhism to therapy while giving a clear-cut explanation of Buddhism. This book was beautifully written and the best I ever read.  Hats off for this book, it was great.  I give it 4 Stars.

Spiritual Liberation by Michael Bernard Beckwith.

I loved this book. The words popped off the page and resonated with a story in my own life, which drew me in to how Beckwith teaches about spirit.  This book will not resonate with everyone, but what book does?  I believe it is a great read and I learned a lot from this book about my faith and my faith in having faith.  It is our belief in what we think that gives us life.  If you believe that you are a loser then you loose, if you are a winner then you win. I give this book four stars.  This book sums it up with good homespun wisdom.

Spontaneous Evolution by Bruce H Lipton, PH .D. and Steve Bhaerman

This book was in the New Age section of the bookstore.  I read the back and it was about changing the paradigm of our mind.  So I picked up and read it I found it was interesting but very heady it talked about how our stories started that our culture is based on. Going back as far as the beginning of time, it dips into government, health care, and religion.  It was not what I excepted but it did change some of my paradigm as it promised.  I would sit down and look through it before buying it but I do give it three and half stars.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

This book is a wonderful story with a great plot and lessons that can be applied to your own life to give you a jump-start to follow your own dreams. It nourishes the energy that we all need to believe in ourselves.  This is an easy read and a great story to spend your time with on a lazy afternoon.  The Alchemist was refreshing to read because it was a change from what I usually read. I give it four stars.

The Deeper Wound by Deepak Chopra

This book was written after the 9/11 tragedy.   Chopra wrote about recovering the soul from fear and suffering.  Reading this book put me into a place of reflection about my life and where I am and where I am going.  This book is not about happy thoughts; it is a book about truth, people’s stories of 9/11 and coping with the aftermath of that tragedy.  This is a 4 star book but I will tell you it is going to make you reflect, think, hope and change.

The Essence of Self-Realization.  By Paramhansa Yogananda

I love this person, this guru, this master, so without even reading it, this book gets four stars. But, beyond that, what I love about this book and this person is his everyday wisdom and easy writing and the willingness to share our gods with us.  This book is a collection of short stories, sayings, and questions from his disciples and his answers back to them. It is a great read, just plan to gaze into the universe after you read one of the passages as you ponder what he is offering.  It is a great book, I hope you pick it up and read it.
